This high-quality audience recording captures a trial gig held just before the Musicology tour began. While the first-day recording was available to audiences at the time, the sound quality was significantly better than that of the original, and it was a serious live performance, not a run-through rehearsal, making it a sought-after hidden gem. It faithfully follows the foundations of the later Musicology tours, from the opening of Musicology to the final Purple Rain, but there are some interesting parts not seen on later Musicology performances. The acoustic set in the second half is a pattern seen in the first half of Musicology, but the performances of Peach while playing It Ain't Over and A Case Of U, sung by Prince on a beautiful piano, have never been performed since, and the performances are cool, making this a truly shining item. It's refreshing to see how Prince himself was exploring the development of the second half of the show. Without a moment's pause, they played Purple Rain, even showing the time to introduce the band members. This relaxed atmosphere is unique to a trial gig, and it sounds interesting, doesn't it? The slightly unconventional development of Purple Rain somehow seems to undermine Prince's intention to liven things up, making it a must-listen in some ways. Fans should definitely check out this live performance and study the differences from other Mu-Colo shows. This is the first step in the Musicology tour, which will continue to evolve as various songs are added little by little.
