A 4-CD set of Christmas live performances to listen to this Christmas! What is this incredible sound quality? Even though this is an audience recording, it's hard to believe it's a soundboard recording; even a soundboard recording doesn't have this kind of immersive quality! December 26, 1984, at the Civic Center, this is the triumphant return live performance in Minneapolis, where the band performed "Another Lonely Christmas," the only performance of that lonely Christmas. Previously released under the title "Another Lonely Christmas (2CDR)" on the L.C.B.S.N. label, this release uses a different source and master! And the master sound quality is simply amazing! It's no exaggeration to say this is the best-sounding audience recording of the Purple Rain tour! After 22 minutes of "Baby I'm A Star," Jerome is called in late and Prince asks, "What Time is it?" The funky action sounds like the return of the disbanded band The Time. It's a stop-and-go affair, a Latin-infused affair with Sheila and others, and an energetic jam so intense it's exhausting. Then, as if gently enveloping your heated body, he begins, "This is a Christmas present from me," after the MC. It's beyond words. While the sound isn't quite as good as Another Lonely EX-Mas, it's still a fantastic audience recording, thanks to the same taper. This recording isn't even listed in The Vault, making it a first-time appearance! Following the fantastic performance the day before, Minneapolis again provided the audience with a top-notch performance! While it's unfortunate that the recording isn't complete, it's a joy to unearth and release this previously unreleased live performance in high quality, and it's a must-have for any new Purple Rain tour research! Disc 2 also features rehearsals from the Purple Rain tour. While previously released on Sabotage and elsewhere, it appears they unearthed a tape closer to the master, resulting in a much improved sound quality. The content itself cuts out the sloppy rehearsal-like feel, making it a very enjoyable experience.
